Hand quilting is a traditional method of creating a quilt by hand-sewing the fabric layers (quilt top, batting, and backing) together using a needle and thread, without the use of a sewing machine. It involves stitching through all three layers with a running stitch, creating a soft, crinkled texture.
Process:
The quilt top, batting, and backing are basted together. You will then use a needle and thread to stitch through all three layers, typically using a running stitch. Once the quilting is complete, the quilt is washed, dried, and bound,
Benefits:
Unique Texture:
Hand quilting creates a soft, crinkled texture that is not achievable with
machine quilting.
Personal Touch
The process is meditative and allows for a more personal touch in the
quilting design.
Durable:
Hand quilting can be just as durable as machine quilting, especially with the use of quilting threads.
